Twelve miners were killed when a phosphate mine in Kalidhar area caved in, here on Wednesday.
According to police, the miners entered the mine on Wednesday to extract phosphate illegally but soon after a major portion of the mine caved in suddenly and all the people inside were buried alive.
Police and rescue teams arrived at the scene and with the help of local people recovered the bodies. Five of them belong to the same family.
Illegal extraction of phosphate has been going on for quite some time but the provincial mines department has not taken action against any one.
Last year three people had died in a similar incident.
