A judicial magistrate on Tuesday handed over the owners of three pharmaceutical companies on a three-day physical remand to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for selling spurious medicines to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology that resulted in deaths of dozens of heart patients.
Earlier, Dr Tahir Azam, Waseem Chaudhary and Ch Nadir, owners of Alfa Pharma, Mega Pharma and Pharma Wise were presented before the court by the FIA officials. FIA investigators said the hospital management and the doctors could not be held accountable since the medicines did not even carry expiry dates on their packets while the counsel for the accused said they should be released on bail.
