The Awami Jamhoori Party has condemned the 20th constitutional amendment bill moved by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in the National Assembly. In a statement issued on Monday, AJP’s central leadership including its President Abrar Kazi, Harif Chandio and Wishno Mal urged Sindh’s legislators not to vote for the bill regarding the creation of new provinces as it would eventually pave the way for the division of Sindh. “The bill is against the 18th Amendment and it would undo the principle of provincial autonomy,” they said.
The AJP warned the Sindh government not to fall for the “attempt to divide Sindh in the name of the reconciliation”.
“The AJP respects the demand for a separate province for the Seraiki people, but it should come from them. Sindhis should have no doubts that the MQM’s bill will lay down the constitutional foundation for breaking up Sindh,” they said.
“The National Assembly should not have any right to change the boundaries of the province of Sindh. Pakistan did not create Sindh, it is Sindh which created Pakistan.” The AJP leaders urged the people of Sindh to protest the bill and join hands on January 28t to make the strike called by the Save Sindh Action Committee a success.
