I will never join PTI, says Fatima Bhutto

Fatima Bhutto, daughter of Murtaza Bhutto, on Sunday announced that she would not join Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Speaking at the Jaipur Literature Festival, she said her entry into the PTI was unlikely and would never happen. “He has an incredible cosiness not with the military but with the dictatorship,” she said about Imran Khan. Fatima also accused Imran of defending the legacy of former military ruler General (r) Zia-ul-Haq, who came to power in the late 1970s after overthrowing prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Fatima’s grandfather and the founder of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). She also mentioned Imran’s support for a 2002 referendum which allowed General (r) Pervez Musharraf to extend his term. “As a woman I worry very much about Imran’s politics,” she said while talking about the PTI chief’s opposition to amending a 2006 women’s bill in favour of rape victims. She also questioned Imran’s commitment to secularism and to defending minorities. “Is he a savior? No, I don’t think so,” she said during a Pakistan-focused session at the literary festival.

  3. Fatima Bhutto has said time and time again that she is not interested in joining politics just cos her mom was a politician. I think it is good decision, but Fatima Bhutto seems like an educated and smart lady so I think she can do some good for our nation Pakistan.

    • Notice how directly she talked on the issues and how collected her mind is. Respect to her!

      May be Pakistan needs more people like her than getting crowded with IKs'…

Listen to her critically, you would realize that except for using literary sarcasm, she has nothing to convince… Sarcasm is not what we need for this nation at the moment!! We need vision and a person who can “realize” his vision which IK seems to come up to!!

    • She is right: Iran Khan is no saviour. Every country is feeling the economic crunch and he wants the people to believe he can take out Pakistan out of it with a magic wand.

      She seems to hold high literary capacity. The question is whether that can be used to Pakistan's benefit…

  27. Good decision, she has avoided to be a bird of passage like other politicians. PTI is noting just Q-league of thid time. If Q-league has deliver something than PTI will bring change. IK is pupet in the hands of agencies & floating on the serface with out any spacific vision

  32. yeah…..take a word from someone whose lived most of her life abroad…..touring across the globe presenting herself as a true and self righteous representative of Pakistan, well you need to earn it , you do not get that just because you were born in a family of politicians. Id prefer imrans word over yours ANYTIME because the guy lives in Pakistan….has most of his wealth in Pakistan , been through a lot in Pakistan…was almost and could have been beaten to death too. Come to your country…spend sometime here , do something for the masses and then you will get your credibility.

Grand father is lot to every one. but the picture here is much bigger man its about pakistan. not some individual grand father. She also said " Is he a savior? No, I don’t think so,”…. Ms Fatima. Cancer Hospital Chachi Kutni nay banaya hay where thousand of peoples saved every year. personally i like you cause you are also educated women. you should get out of bhutto family and think about pakistan.. leave Bhutto behind. Bhutto may be alive but family is dead. so get out from dead people and live your life.

  36. Imran Khan's past, present & future are that of a playboy. Such people without any ethical values have no place in our politics. Once, the Establishment has used him for their ulterior motives, he will be written off. He used to live in a small house in Zaman Park but after collecting funds for Shaukat Khanum, he lives in a sprawling 300 kanal estate in Islamabad. It may be noted, he has a family history of being financially corrupt. His father was dismissed due to corruption.

    • dont be personal… fatima's mother ghinwa bhutto was also a belly-dancer before marrying murtaza. fatima, too, have a big landholding. why cant she be the 1st drop of change,she wanna see others to be. donate ur property fatima and make a solid contribution to pakistan.

This country was stable and progressing in the sixties when senior Bhutto came on the scene and first divided the country and then led the remaining part into confusion through his half baked and hypocritical policies, the fruit of which we are tasting till today. Imran should avoid the 'Bhutto' jinx as far as possible.

  44. I have a lot of respect and admiration for Ms. Bhutto. In fact she is the only heir of ZAB that I would vote for.
    If she has concerns then she needs to be listened to and perhaps, someone as intelligent as Imrn Khan understands this and will listen.

The day she will ask for forgiveness to Tariq Rahims family, I have no sympathy for her. Her only contribution is? that she has the name "Bhutto" and that her father was killed during BB tenure and she wrote a book after that! Thats all! While IK has achieved alot she has just ridiculed all the govts! Best for her is to go to literary circles abroad and keep yapping while IK will do whats necassary!

Fatima Bhutto's criticism of Imran Khan should be consigned to the dustbin.Her place in the politics and history of Pakistan is so insignificant that her such comments are unwarranted.If Pakistan is to lift itself from the quagmire it find itself a change in the leadership of Pakistan is absolutely essential.People of Pakistan should once and for all get rid of the landowning feudalists and the industrial capitalist and replace them with dynamic, educated,charismatic,nationalistic and people friendly individuals like Imran Khan who will not cower to Americans nor think of fattening his bank Account in Switzerland.Fatima Bhutto should study the history of Bhuttos before censuring Imran Khan, who brought honour and glory to Pakistan by winning the World Cup and putting up the cancer hospital for the benefit of Pakistanis.

  66. All fatima seems capable of is commentary. She always talks about things past. She has a beautiful voice and a hypnotic and captivating if somewhat polished presentation.

    In the end though – all she can do is to give a lightly sarcastic analysis of events now gone – she is accomplished at stringing facts together and briniging togethr a range of subjects – past and present. But she has no answers for the future – she has no ideas – she cannot stck her neck out and show her hand and commit to any idea or thought. This is why she wont be and cannot be a Polician.

    I admire her work – and her intentions towards Pakistan are well founded. she definately needs to keep up her observations and fight the good fight – and I agree with her dislike for Zardar, Bilawal and Dynastic Politics.
