Chicken price increases, four weeks in a row

The prices of vegetables and fruits remain stable in the Sunday bazaars while the prices of chicken increased.
The prices of chicken increased by Rs 5 per kg and it was sold at Rs 220 per kg.
The prices of majority of vegetables remained stable and the prices of only five vegetables increased. The prices of ginger increased Rs 10 per kg and it was sold for Rs 80 per kg. Similarly, the prices of tomatoes increased Rs 10 per kg and it was available for Rs 45 per kg. The prices of onions, potatoes and garlic remained stable. The potatoes were sold for Rs 10-12 per kg, onions for Rs 40 per kg and garlic for Rs 70 per kg. The prices of cucumber and spinach decreased and it were sold for Rs 45 per kg and Rs 20 per kg respectively.
In fruits, the prices of bananas, apples, oranges, kinnow, pomegranate and guava remained stable while the prices of A grade apples and kinnows increased.
The prices of chicken kept increasing for the fourth consecutive week and touched Rs 220 per kg. Chicken sellers said that they brought less chickens as the buyers were not buying in bulk given increasing rates. “I knew people will buy less chicken due to the high prices and so I purchased less and even then managed to sell only 20-25 kg,” said chicken seller Kamran Ali, adding that chicken sales had dropped considerably over the last two weeks. He said people were more interested in buying mutton and beef, instead of chicken. Customers said the city district government should check chicken prices. “The previous DCO freeze chicken prices at Rs 200 per kg but the current DCO is not taking any such measures,” said customer Javed Latif, adding it was the work of city district government to keep chicken prices in check.
