A retired army officer and his accomplice have been booked for issuing fake letters on behalf of the Interior Ministry to students for achieving international scholarships.
The Secretariat police booked Capt (retd) Juma Khan his accomplices Mukhtar Ahmed as well as two students Muhammad Naseem and Naveed Khan for issuing and using fake letters of the Interior Ministry for getting international scholarships.
According to the police, two students, Naveed and Naseem Khan, visited the Interior Ministry for verification of the letters from where they were arrested.
A police officer said that after getting the said letters, the students first went to the Foreign Office for going abroad, however the Foreign Office directed them to verify the letters from the Interior Ministry. Upon this, they visited the Interior Ministry to verify the letters, where these letters turned to be fake. The officials of the Interior Ministry handed the students over to the Secretariat police. According to the police, during preliminary investigations, the accused students alleged that after paying Rs 200,000, they got the said letters from Juma Khan and his friend Mukhtar Ahmed.
The police registered an FIR against the nabbed students, Juma Khan and Mukhtar Ahmed. A police source said that Mukhtar Ahmed had been arrested while efforts were being made to arrest Juma Khan.
