Journey of America’s Jazz Ambassadors through lens

The officials of the US Consulate General in Karachi inaugurated the photo exhibition titled “Jam Session: America’s Jazz Ambassadors” at the Indus Valley School of Arts and Architecture on Saturday evening.
The Jazz Ambassadors were American jazz greats, who traveled the globe under the sponsorship of the US State Department from the mid-1950s through the 1970s – serving as musical envoys, transcending national boundaries, and making friends. Clark Terry and his Jolly Giants performed at the Pakistan American Cultural Centre in Karachi in 1978, and Dizzie Gillespie and Duke Ellington also performed in Pakistan.
The photo exhibition depicts their creative and successful approach to cultural diplomacy. The exhibit contains more than 100 images capturing memorable moments from jazz tours to 35 countries and four continents, and will be on display through January 28.
