With a view to strengthening capacity building in the fields of social sciences, arts and humanities, five public-sector universities of Pakistan have agreed to form the country s’ first-ever inter-university consortium for promoting social sciences, arts and humanities. The formal MOU-singing ceremony will be held on Monday (today) at Islamia University Bahawalpur. Prof Dr S Sohail H Naqvi, executive director, Higher Education Commission (HEC), will grace the occasion as the chief guest.
The ceremony will be attended by vice chancellors, the HEC officials, faculty members and representatives of civil society and chamber of commerce. The faculty members and PhD scholars of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) and other higher educational institutions will participate in the ceremony through video conferencing. The seven higher education institutions which are going to join the consortium are University of Gujarat, Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad, Islamia University Bahawalpur, Institute of Management Sciences Peshawar, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, University of Balochistan and Government College University Faisalabad.
The areas of cooperation under the consortium will include faculty development/exchange as adjunct faculty members, exchange of students and publications, joint research projects (each university will work in its respective geographical area), joint linkages with other international and national organisations, joint seminars/conferences and workshops, diploma courses on civic/human rights education and other programmes of mutual interest.
