Former Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman and Capital Administration and Development Division (CA&DD) Secretary Imtiaz Inayat Elahi on Saturday said that the efforts to give Islamabad a distinct ‘green character’ need to be pursued more aggressively in the future. The CA&DD secretary, who was recently transferred from the office of the CDA chairman to take up his new responsibilities, was speaking at a reception hosted in his honour by the Islamabad Horticulture Society (HIS) at the Islamabad Club.
He said that during his time as the CDA chairman, he had conceived the idea of giving a unique ‘green character’ to the federal capital that may become the city’s identity globally. He said that the idea was not confined to making the city and its surroundings more green, rather it encompassed a whole scheme of projects, including the protection and preservation of the ancient trees of historic value that were present all over the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) limits, launching the anti-littering drives with full cooperation of the civil society, improving the solid waste management, launching the rain harvesting project to prevent the waste of precious rain water and use them to improve the subsoil water level.
“Now, there is a need to pursue these efforts, which have already been launched and are continuing smoothly, more vigorously because we owe this to this city, the people who live here and to our future generations,” the CA&DD secretary said.
