Additional District & Sessions Judge Hamid Hussain awarded life imprisonment to a convict accused of burning the Holy Quran.
The imprisonment was awarded when the accused, Muhammad Ameen, was found guilty by Deputy District Public Prosecutor Malik Amjad.
According to details, complainant Naseer Ahmed got an FIR registered against Ameen under section 295/B in North Cantt Police Station, in which he sated that he was leaving the mosque after Isha prayers when he was told that Ameen was burning the Quran in his house and when the group reached Ameen’s house, they saw him doing so in a stove.
Five Prosecution Witnesses (PW) recorded ther statements against Ameen and also handed over the evidence which included a matchbox, a stove and a pot in which the pages were allegedly burnt.
However, Ameen contended that he was being framed since one of the PW had illicit relationship with his wife and wanted to clear his way. He said Naseer Ahmed and Zahid considered him to be a ‘kafir’ since he was a shia and they were on a personal vendetta against him since he had placed an ‘alam’ on his roof.
He said he had prayed the Isha prayer with everyone else and had gone to a majlis after that and when he got home, his wife informed him that a case had been filed against him. However, he was still rewarded the life imprisonment.
