The problem of noise pollution in Rawalpindi is aggravating day by day as traffic rush and lack of management on the part of the authorities concerned reflected the gravity of the hazard on the roads and markets of the city. The population of the city is increasing at a rapid rate because every year a large number of people from all over the country arrive in the twin cities either for jobs or to get education, which has multiplied the burden on roads and resulted in increase noise pollution.
According to a survey conducted by Pakistan Today, the highest noise pollution was recorded near the Pirwadhai General Bus Terminal, which is the hub of intercity and intra city traffic, where the noise pollution is extremely higher than the other parts of the city. The second highest noisy location was spotted near Churr Chowk on Peshawar Road in Rawalpindi. The situation at Faizabad is also the same where acute noise pollution was observed because of the traffic rush and sounds created by the vendors and stall holders. The environmentalists in the city have urged the law enforcement agencies and regulatory bodies to pay attention to the problem and bring down the noise pollution level for the betterment of the residents of the city as well as the nearby areas.
