GMC becomes part of UHS

Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) Member National Assembly (MNA) Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan said on Thursday that no nation could survive without the generation of new knowledge.
He was speaking at a ceremony held to commemorate the Punjab government’s decision to declare the Gujranwala Medical College (GMC) as a constituent college of the University of Health Sciences (UHS). Addressing the faculty UHS and GMC, he said, “The UHS and GMC have to be at the forefront to give a new look to the health delivery system in the province.” UHS Vice Chancellor Prof Malik Hussain Mubbashar, GMC Principal Prof Atiya Mubarik Khalid, Gujranwala Health Executive District Officer (EDO) Dr Nisar Cheema and Gujranwala District Headquarters Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Capt M Zafar Iqbal were also present at the occasion. UHS VC Prof Mubbashar congratulated the GMC faculty on becoming a part of the UHS and assured them of full support. “The UHS would establish a fully equipped Computer Resource Lab for the faculty and students of the Gujranwala Medical College,” he said adding that efforts would also be made to upgrade the Gujranwala DHQ Hospital. “All efforts would be made to make Gujranwala a model of comprehensive healthcare. The UHS would up-grade the emergency and ambulance services in Gujranwala in collaboration with the Institute of Learning Emergency Medicine and Disaster Relief, Ireland.”
