Armed robbers snatched thousands of rupees in cash and mobile phones from five judges here early on Thursday morning. Two sessions judges along with three other judges were on their way to Bahawalnagar from Khanewal in their car after attending funeral prayers of a colleague when armed robbers stopped them in Bhokan Pattan area of Bahawalnagar. The robbers snatched the money, phones and other valuable and fled the scene. Police cordoned off the crime scene and launched a search operation but the robbers managed to escape. The victims were identified as Additional Sessions Judges Anwar Zahid Butt and Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Azam, and Senior Civil Judges Kabeer Khan, Nadeem Imtiaz and Ahmed Zia. Lawyers of Bahawalpur district bar held a demonstration and boycotted court proceedings on Thursday in protest against the incident. They demanded police arrest the culprits and punish them.
