A local court on Friday sought report from the jail superintendent on a petition, seeking action against the officials of Adiyala Jail for beating the under-trial prisoners.
Five under-trial prisoners of Adiyala Jail including Naeem Iqbal, Asad Raza, Arslan Shah, Munir Ahmad and Waheed filed an application before the court of Additional Sessions Judge Yar Muhammad Gondal, alleging that Assistant Superintendent Jail Mr Mazhar had thrashed them inhumanely and was continuously threatening them. They alleged that some days ago, some prisoners were sitting in the jail premises as they have to appear before the court after a short time. “Mazhar came towards us while he was intoxicated and started beating the prisoners along with his subordinates,” they stated in their application. The prisoners further alleged that Mazhar also threatened them to face dire consequences, if they (prisoners) tried to take any legal action against him. They appealed the court to direct the officials concerned to ensure safe environment for the inmates.
