All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) Secretary General Muhammad Ali Saif on Thursday said that no final decision has been taken to delay the return of APML President Pervez Musharraf to Pakistan.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Saif said the party’s Punjab leadership held a meeting in which it was decided to request the former president to delay his plans of returning to Pakistan for the time being. Similar meetings would be held in Karachi where the APML Sindh leadership would decide the future course of action, while similar meetings will be held in other provinces as well.
Barrister Saif said the situation had changed dramatically since January 9 and the government has been destabilised to a great extent. “Under the present circumstances, party workers and leaders feel that the return of Musharraf may benefit the government rather than the APML,” he said. “The government could use our leader’s return as a pretext to divert attention from the current complex political situation in the country,” he added. The decision of the party workers and leaders would be put before Musharraf who is on a foreign tour and the final decision would be taken at the party’s meeting to be held on January 24 Musharraf, in a telephonic address to his party workers at Bagh-e-Quaid, had declared that he would land in Karachi between the 27th and 30th of this month.
