All’s well at Malir housing… but what about water?

The Malir Housing Scheme’s allottees are facing an acute water shortage as the Malir Development Authority (MDA) is yet to lay the bulk water supply line, which is an essential requirement before the construction and occupation of the allotted plots.
The allottees have written to the Sindh chief secretary (CS) to draw his attention towards the MDA’s “gross negligence” in not laying the bulk water pipeline that could erode the scheme’s six-billion-rupee infrastructure development.
In the letter, it was stated that costing billions of rupees provided by the Sindh government, the former City District Government Karachi and the allottees, the internal/external development, including roads, internal water supply lines, sewerage pipelines, parks and playgrounds, at the New Malir Housing Scheme was completed but it is quite unfortunate that the bulk water supply line has not been laid yet.
“Laying the bulk water supply line should have been the first priority but all the other development works have been completed, except the bulk water supply line, and, therefore, the distribution of water supply lines and sewerage lines, the roads and parks, and everything else would be ruined with the passage of time,” the allottees reasoned.
They said that without water, the huge amount that has already been spent on the development of infrastructure in the Malir Housing Scheme would go to waste.
They requested the CS to direct the MDA to lay the bulk water supply line on priority basis, which would enable the scheme’s allottees to start construction.
Sources said that the CS has asked the local government to look into the matter and accordingly submit a report.
