The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Polyclinic and the National Institute of Rehabilitative Medicine (NIRM) doctors and staff members continued their strike on Wednesday against the non-implementation of the Basic Pay Scale (BPS) system.
A large number of doctors, nurses and other staff members staged a sit-in and chanted slogans in favour of their demands at the D-Chowk (Parade Avenue).
The protestors said large-scale demonstrations will be held at the end of the 72-hour deadline on Friday.
Talking to Pakistan Today, Joint Action Committee member Raja Ilyas said the protest was bigger than the previous one. “The officials had announced the Health Personnel Pay Scale (HPS) in the National Assembly but the non-medical staff rejected it in favour of the BPS.”
He said a JAC delegation met government officials the service structure would be revised but nothing has been done so far. He said if the demands were not met till Friday, the JAC would stage a sit-in in front of the Parliament House to demand the revival of the BPS structure.
