Punjab University Academic Staff Association (PUASA) former president Maher Saeed Akhtar who was in the front line in the campaign against VC Dr Mujahid Kamran has changed his stance and said the issue of the PU VC has settled and now he will never comment about Dr Kamran’s appointment.
On the other hand, PU employees who were used by former ASA President to run a campaign against Kamran condemned Saeed’s ‘double game’ that he had played with them.
PU employees said ‘hypocrite’ Saeed had used them in the propaganda against the VC and now when he had been re-elected, he had changed his stance completely. Saeed, who was actively lobbying against Kamran for the last two weeks, told Pakistan Today that he had ‘settled’ the issue with Kamran. Earlier, Saeed had held a conference against Kamran and had accused him of making illegal appointments and embezzling money.
PU Employee’s Unions members, who participated in the campaing, condemned Saeed and said he had taken an advantage of them. They said it was Saeed’s hypocrisy that had led to Kamran’s reappointment and had they carried this campaign under any other leader, this would not have happened. Teachers, too, condemned Saeed’s double game and said the interests of the students and the staff should not have been compromised.
A few years ago, members of Jamat-e-Islami (JI) Academic Group had accused Saeed of being a ‘conman’ who was a ‘ring leader’ of a mafia and who had made millions illegally.
