The Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Farkhand Iqbal directed the authority’s environment wing on Wednesday to increase the number of saplings to be planted during the spring and monsoon plantation campaigns for this year.
“The authority is endeavoring to plant new varieties of flowers and trees along the roads and on the green belts,” the chairman said while addressing the prize distribution ceremony of the Autumn Flowers Show 2012 organised by the CDA in collaboration with the Islamabad Horticultural Society. The chairman also directed the CDA formations to focus on planting indigenous species of trees as they acclimate well with the climatic condition of the capital. The CDA chief said the city’s landscaping would be revamped and new varieties of flowers would be introduced to enhance the beauty of the city. “The beautiful landscape and colourful flowers are the hallmark of Islamabad, which make it unique among the modern capitals of the world,” he said.
Iqbal also distributed prizes and trophies to the winners of the three-day flower show held during November 2011. The winning organisations were the CDA, Pak PWD, the Islamabad Club, the National Highway Authority, Pakistan Motorway and Traffic Police and other participants who entered the exhibition individually.
