Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Wednesday stressed on judicial independence and impartiality and stated that this could be achieved only through setting personal example of honesty, independence
and impartiality.
He was talking to a nine-member delegation of the Peshawar High Court Bar Association headed by its President Khawaja Muhammad Khan Gara and Secretary General Aminur Rehman that called on the CJ at the Supreme Court.
The delegation had come to extend the support for efforts of the chief justice.
The delegation informed the CJ about the recent unanimously-passed resolution by the bar to the effect that they would stand by the judiciary and support the rulings and decisions of the Supreme Court. The members said a judicial academy has been established recently by the provincial government of KP to train judicial officers, court staff and young lawyers in the field of law and judicial administration.
Moreover, they informed that they had been provided funds by the government, but the bar wanted to distribute the funds amongst district bar associations for the uplift of libraries at district levels. The CJ said the bar was an integral part of the judicial administration and lawyers had contributed a great deal to the maintenance of rule of law and supremacy of the constitution in the country. He also commended the role played by the Peshawar High Court Bar for constitutionalism, rule of law and supremacy of constitution, which was historical and beyond comparison in the judicial history.
