Too ‘corrupt’ to continue?

At the time when the appointment of a regular vice chancellor at the Punjab University is the main topic of discussion, the Academies Staff Association and PU employees are demanding of the Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to investigate the irregularities and financial embezzlements done by Acting VC Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran who himself is a candidate for the VC slot. Sources in the PU asking not be named alleged that in his four-year tenure, Kamran had made around 600 and 250 illegal appointments on administrative and lecturers’ posts at PU.
They also alleged that Kamran was involved in corruption worth Rs 1.5 billion and this was also in the knowledge of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly. Sources further added that Kamran had awarded an Rs 6 crore university contract to his son for the construction of speed breakers in the varsity and no audit had been carried out in the project. These allegations could prove to be very dangerous for the acting VC since this issue is being highlighted at all levels. This time, an appeal has been made to the CM.
It is important to mention here that the three names that have been sent to the Punjab CM also include the name of former VC Dr Mujahid Kamran. The inclusion of Kamran in the list despite the corruption and illegal appointments charges is disheartening for the varsity employees, who say that they see a bleak future for the university if history is repeated.
According to sources, after taking charge of the PU VC office in 2007, Kamran opened the doors of university to influential personalities and through a fake selection board, he appointed around 600 administrative officials on important seats like the assistant registrar, assistant controllers and others. According to PU employees, around 250 lecturers and assistant professors were appointed in different departments through fake selection board. Sources said the relatives of political personality, bureaucrats, landlords and journalists were appointed as lectures and assistant professors.
A senior teacher requesting not to be identified said the CM should investigate these appointments as most of these candidates had scored a third division in their exams while deserving and genius candidates had been rendered unemployed.
According to a member of PU’s Employees Unions, the CM should read the report of the Standing Committee of the NA that was complied last year, after which the VC was also called by the NA for an explanation. He said the Public Accounts Committee last year also asked for a brief audit of the PU’s accounts in the tenure of Kamran. He said beside the financial corruption, around 300 employees were sacked by Kamran on raising voice against his corruption. Sources revealed that last week Academic Staff Association also sent a letter to the CM’s Secretariat via an MPA, demanding of the CM to look into the matter of financial irregularities and illegal appointments before appointing Kamran as VC.
ASA members also distributed pamphlets among the officials of Education Department, Punjab University, Punjab Assembly and the CM’s Secretariat, but all in vain.
According to a PU faculty member, the academic environment of the university had been damaged during the tenure of Kamran and research culture could not be developed since the university had become a hub of corruption. He said not only the VC but his close allies were also actively involved in illegal appointments about which the CM had been kept in dark. He said the university would be destroyed if Kamran was appointed the VC again.
A PU spokesperson told Pakistan Today that not a single complaint had surfaced during the tenure of Kamran which showed that the allegations of merit violation were baseless and added that there were no financial embezzlements either. He said the allegations were being made by a group of teachers and the selection boards had made around 555 appointments, adding that around 80 percent of the audit paras dealing with irregularities were related to the tenure of last vice chancellor.

  2. he & his cousin Dr. Mansor Sarwar are biased person & KING's of Corruption. i served 7 years in Punjab University, i do not know ? kind of personal problem Dr. Mansoor sarwar with me…… he stopped my contract without any reason while time was passed while he did not inform me one month prior , not verbal or written notification….. he want his person on my designation but i fought this corrupt persons………. i have a lot of achievement at national, provincial & in Punjab university which i opened at a right time, … their corruption list is so big,

  3. can any one tell me , what kind of improvement Dr. Muajahid kamran & his cousin Dr. mansoor sarwar brought in punjab university, they only full bellies of their puppets, Corruption & irrregularities in punjab unievsrity. Dr mujahid kamran grant salary to his cousin from 3 accounts (IBIT dep't, PUCIT, purchasing committe, head of recruitment in punjab university , resarch etc…)…… mujahid kamran & mansor sarwar both are black spot in punjab university…….

  4. Although I do not know Mr. Sher Khan but still I think he doesn't deserve to be in PU because he can't even write one para in correct english.

    • @Ms Farah- is it possible if you come in front & meet me… then i will tell you who am i & ………… there is no need to tell you my achievements bcz Govt dep't & People give me regard & respect…….. my achievemnts ar hard-coded & i done it…. you are protecting a person who crushed a lot of sincere peoples of punjab university. i will open his & his team secrets all sooonnnn…………… dont worry……

  5. I personally know few friends in PU who have been appointed purely on merit in PU in Dr. kamran's tenure. They are not very senior but still they have started publications and they give credit for this to Dr. Kamran.

    • can you give me your friends list who have been appointed purely on merit (according to those credit goes to dr. mujahid) can you share these things with us….. we all wana know……..these fresh appointee…………………is it justice that a person(teacher) who devoted himself for PU in some years & PU VC Appoint a fresh student …. (its is ridiculous) PU VC give all kinds of exemption to his pupets & make donkies to other hardworkers…… a fresh appointee got 15 increment sudden after joining………….Strange………………. (it is ridiculous )

  7. I think most of the research work were remnants of the work done in the previous VCs tenure. I think Mujahid has been the biggest imediment to serious growth by creating fake cases against reputed professors known for their research around the world.

  9. I think there has to be more material before media starts making allegations of this nature. Given the article claims that evidence against Dr. Kamran has been presented to Standing Committee, it would have been befitting had an action taken place if and when those allegations were substantiated and proven correct. If that has not happened, then we need to question the system rather than the individual under discussion. Otherwise, let us stop from pointing fingers left, right and centre for this fashion is now turning into a nuisance …

  17. I was sitting with a 70-year old man, who once had a lot of hopes from Pakistan, and gave everything he had back to the nation. Today, he believe that the 'corrupt will always prevail in Pakistan'. I was hoping that he would be proven wrong, and a tide of change will come. Unfortunately, the VC has been given 4 more years. 4 more years of a grand educational institute back in the hands of a corrupt family, trying to run the university as a private business. I am certain that this term will be more turbulent than his first. It would have been advisable for him to step down respectfully instead of accepting the extension.

  18. finally, i founf, no more justice in pakistan,,,,,, zardari, shujaat, nawaz, shahbaz, & all politicians are loooting pakistan….. dr. mujahid kamran , his couzin soor sarwar , her wife & whole family is corrupt…. but no vain,,,, bcz khadme-Ala , zardari, khosa, like corrupt peoples as they are…
