The Lahore Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning Agency will reconstruct the 1.8 kilometre long Maulana Shabbir Usmani Road, from its New Garden Town ‘Y’ Junction to the Faisal Town roundabout, as part of a project that will cost Rs 166.8 million and continue for two months. The project’s tenders have been invited from contractors who own asphalt plants in or around Lahore, as well as the machinery required for mega construction projects. The dual carriage way, which is presently 24 feet wide on both sides, will be widened up to 30 feet on the side leading from Garden Town to Faisal Town whereas the side running parallel to the university wall will be widened up to 28 feet. Maryan Chowk will be remodelled. The Faisal Town roundabout will be removed and traffic signals installed instead. Traffic heading towards Garden Town from Jinnah Hospital will have a signal free corridor after the completion of the project. An estimated two hundred thousand vehicles will benefit from this project daily.
