Rejecting a report on the worsening law and order in Balochistan, the Supreme Court on Monday directed the Balochistan advocate general to submit the last three months’ reports of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Daily Secret Reports (DSRs) of the special branch. A three-member bench of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Tariq Parvez was hearing a petition filed by Hadi Shakeel, president of Balochistan High Court Bar Association, against the deteriorating law and order in the province.
While rejecting the report submitted by the provincial government, the chief justice directed the Balochistan AG Amnauulah Kunrani to submit the last three months’ reports of the IB, CID and DSRs, as they were under his government.
“If we then think appropriate, we would get the reports from the ISI also,” the chief justice added. Kunrani submitted before the court that situation in Quetta was not as bad as Karachi and all the incidents that occurred in Quetta were individual and the city had never been closed due to such incidents. Justice Khilji Arif Hussain observed that Karachi was a cosmopolitan city having a population of over 20 million and people living in Karachi could move around easily, while in Quetta no one could move around alone. He observed that people residing in Quetta were scared and no one was taking care of the issue. “Balochistan is the soul of Pakistan and no one can live without its soul,” Justice Khilji Arif Hussain added.
