The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Mian Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday exhorted Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani to appear before the judiciary in Supreme Court of Pakistan to answer court’s contempt notice.
The apex court on Monday issued a contempt notice to Gilani, ordering him to appear personally before the jury on January 19 for failing to pursue NRO cases against the president and other officials.
“Mr. Gilani should face the Supreme Court bench. The situation would have been differed today had he acted upon my advices,” the former prime minster said while talking to reporters at Sukkur airport.
Nawaz said that the government’s allies should also be considered to be involved in humiliating prestigious institutions, saying “they are equally responsible for the present political turmoil”.
He was of the view that some judges should also be impeached for legalizing dictatorship in the past.
Later, Nawaz arrived in Pir Jo Goth near Khairpur to meet Pir Sibghatullah Shah Rashidi, also known as Raja Saein, who was elected the eight Pir Pagara of the Hur community.
Rashidi is the eldest son of Late Pir Syed Mardan Shah II, who died in London last week.
Talking to media representatives alongside the Pir Pagara, Nawaz accused the ruling clique of creating threats for democracy’s survival.
“The democracy has no threat from anyone, other than the attitude of present rules,” he said.
“Pakistan is passing through critical phase. We all should join hands together because no single party can steer it out of crises,” he said, ruling out possibility of his faction’s dialogues with the PPP, and pledged to carry on cooperation with Pagara’s PML-Functional.
He urged the government to abide by SC orders and write the letter to Swiss authorities for details of President Zardari’s bank accounts.
“Why they are reluctant to contact Swiss government. Mr Zardari should prove that it’s his own money, and not of the nation.”
