Malik believes memo is fake

Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Tuesday claimed that the memo was fake and part of conspiracies by Mansoor Ijaz against the Pakistan People’s Party. Talking to reporters in Islamabad, the interior minister said on one hand the PML-N was claiming to support democracy, but on the other, it had taken the “fake memo issue to the Supreme Court”. “US businessman Mansoor Ijaz had helped dislodged Benazir Bhutto’s government and the present memo issue is a continuation of the conspiracy,” he said. Malik said the people have praised the prime minister’s decision to appear before the apex court in the contempt of court proceedings, adding that this gesture would help remove misunderstandings. He said the government had always respected the apex court and implemented its decisions and dispelled the impression that the PPP was on a path of confrontation with the judiciary. Malik said the opposition was using tactics to hijack majority from the PPP in the upcoming Senate elections, adding that the parliament would complete its tenure and elections would be held on time. The minister said rivals wanted to avoid Senate elections in March. He said the government would not act with the SC as their rivals did in the past. Malik added that conspiracy was being hatched against the government, but the government would complete its tenure.
