In an effort to curb the layout plan violations of the housing societies, the Capital Development Authority has decided to double the penalties for violators. The decision was taken in a CDA board meeting which was attended by its members and presided over by CDA chairman Farkhand Iqbal.
A CDA official said the planning wing was given directions to increase the penalties awarded to housing societies for violations and that it could play a crucial role in stopping them from violating the CDA by-laws. He stated that bids for the residential and commercial plot auctioned recently, were also accepted during the meeting. However, the bid for a Sector I/8 plot was rejected after the bidder refused to buy a plot. According to the official, encroachers will be heavily fined to regularise the additionally covered areas.
