Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Secretary General Liaqat Baloch said on Sunday that Asif Ali Zardari was a controversial person, who was continuing as Pakistan People’s Party Co-chairman, while holding the office of the president despite court orders.
Addressing the participants of the JI central workshop at Mansoora, Baloch said there was more hatred against the PPP and Asif Ali Zardari in Sindh as compared to the other provinces. No body could play the Sindh card in future, he added. The JI secretary general said that the memo gate scandal was the product of US mind and aimed at creating differences between the Pakistani people in order to prove Pakistan a failed state.
He said that the masses were also losing faith in the judiciary for delay action against over 4,000 target killers and extortionists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), even after the scrapping of the National Reconciliation Order (NRO).
He said that the JI was in contact with other political parties and all the options, including seat adjustment, were open.
On the issue of revival of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), he said that they would have to take the nation into confidence after making amends for the past mistakes, adding that if certain parties remained in touch with the government and other political parties after joining the MMA, the religious alliance would suffer and it would not be able to come up to the nation’s expectations. He said the present situation called for setting up of an independent Election Commission to hold fresh elections under an interim government.
