Santosh Singh, a Sikh student who graduated from the Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) in 2009, will do his PhD in information technology on the expense of the City University New York, from where he completed his masters. According to a press release issued by SSUET, the student’s father, Sardar Heera Singh, called on the university’s chancellor ZA Nizami at the latter’s office and ifnromed him about the development. Heera Singh, who remained adviser to Benazir Bhutto during her government, and is now chairman of the Arambagh Gurdwara Trust, had come to thank the chancellor for the help he had extended in providing admission to his son Santosh at a time when he was unable to pay admission fee. Heera Singh informed the chancellor that after graduating from SSUET in computer engineering, his son went to the US and was admitted to the City University New York with the financial help of his brother, a doctor in the US.
