Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Sunday that he was the Prime Minister of 180 million people and was only answerable to the Parliament and not to any individual.
Prime Minister Gilani added that it was important for the Parliament and not the prime minister to complete the five year term.
Hopeful about the fulfillment of the Parliament’s tenure, Gilani said that all the institutions are working in their domains and he is only answerable to the Parliament.
While speaking to the media in Vehari, the Prime Minister said there was no violation of rules and conduct in the response given to the memo case. He clarified that he has never labeled accusations against anyone, adding that reply submitted in the memo case by Army Chief and DG ISI in the Supreme Court was not according to the rules of law.
Responding to a question regarding Army Chief’s complaint to President against him, Prime Minister Gilani said he was not present in the meeting but presidential spokesperson has already denied the statement.
The prime minister did not comment on if Mansoor Ijaz had arrived in Pakistan.
Mr. Gilani took many U-turns recently. I hope this time he will show some integrity. Hitting the iron when it is hot is right approach on the part of Prime Minister. Establishment has no right to twist the arms of a civilian government. Pakistan suffered a lot from military rulers. At least we have a hope that people will vote during this year and better rulers will emerge.
While it is appropriate that the military functions under civilian control, lets not lose sight of the reasons for the current dis-cord. Has it been of the Military's making? Lets us not give up common sense in pursuit of settling the demons of our desires. Mr Gilani's is not making U-turns, he is virtually at a round-about from day one. He is simply incompetent. Period.
Mr Gilani is absolutely right to say that he is answerable to the parliament only. I sincerely hope he sticks to his statement. If Gen K has guts he can overthrow the government but he will be deeply unpopular for that.
Maybe Gen K has decided that this time around the military will not save these critters from what they deserve at the hands of the Rule of Law. If that doesn't happen then we will have an extremely popular takeover.
Though my comments could not find any space on this issue but I truly agree with you.
Yes, I totally agree with PM. Enough is enough from our establishment. PM is representing 180 million and has been appointed unopposed by the parliament so why should he say sorry sorry sorry to those who are appointed by him and the President. All state pillars and players must work within the 1973 constitution. Parliament is supreme and as such should remain supreme.
Yes he is right. This country can only survive when parliament is supreme. Aabpara industry should be tackled with & brought under civilian control.
Let us first pray for a revamp of the feudal system so that we have a parliament in place which should be held supreme.
1) Every Prime Minister is supposed to be answerable to Parliament.
2) The problem in our country is that Army is politically extremely powerful because of their enormous physical power compared to Parliament.
3) This problem can only be addressed if our civilian political forces get together on one point agenda : To shunt out Army from politics once and for all.
4) This is not possible as long as the Opposition uses all available options to destroy the party or parties in power even if they have to play in the hands of our power hungry Generals.
5) We are a poor country. Millions and millions of our people live below poverty line. Still we have to spend so much on our military. And at the end of the day, it is very frustrating when we find that they cannot defend our territorial sovereignty on the one hand and they do not let our elected representatives to function on the other.
This is a bitter truth which our CJ is not prepared to listen and is very cleverly (though now exposed) is playing the game of chess with democracy at the expense of ordinary citizens who are least bothered on NRO, Memo etc etc etc.. He must stop behaving like a Captain of a "B" Team.
@ Shahid Malik
All that is needed is an honest, educated parliament and government that works for the betterment of the people, provides good governance, ensures law and order and automatically the chances of any intravention are obviated. Power hungry generals are a figment of your imagination. It is only when corrupt politicians in connivance with or despite our civil service, has brought things to an extreme that the khaki has stepped in. Please do not try to rewrite history.
Secondly, it becomes extremely difficult to defend territorial sovereignty when the sitting government colludes with intrusive forces. What is the memo all about? Let sanity prevail.
No shame, no morality, no ethics, no abilities, no intelligence, no good deeds done for the 180million people. Only achievement is record breaking corruption and causing continually increasing misery for the 180m people. One day you will have to answer in front of GOD for all of that – fear that day Mr. Leader of 180M people.
The problem in pakistan: no representation of poor people in the Govt. A mafia is ruling and this ruling elite call themselves champinions of democracy. The resolution is a french type revolution.PM deserves accountability of 180m just like french did just to their nobles.
