Clothes and ready-made garments worth millions of rupees were burnt to ashes when a fire broke out in a garment factory, here late Saturday night.
According to details, a fire erupted in a garments factory located in Export Processing Zone (EPZ) Landhi. Soon after the fire broke out, fire tenders and rescue personnel arrived at the scene and started rescue operations which lasted more than eight hours.
Central Fire Brigade Chief Fire Officer Ehtisham said that it was a huge blaze, but the firemen succeeded in putting it out. He said the blaze had badly damaged the structure of the factory, which collapsed as heat melted the metal frames. Over 20 fire tenders participated in the operation, he added.
While garments worth millions of rupees were gutted due to the fire, no human casualty or injury was reported.
Reasons of the fire have not been ascertained so far.
