In the 5th Club Indigo Golf Tournament, contested over 18 holes at the Royal Palm Golf and Country Club Golf Course yesterday, Salman Chima turned out to be the winner after his startling performance. Over 120 competing golf amateurs enjoyed a great golf outing supplemented by superb Mobilink hospitality and the company of some towering corporate leaders. The golf may have carried an element of social touch but those in practice and in appreciable form remained focused on performance and winning positions. And naturally, while the passionate ones produced quality golf and scores of excellence, others had ragged scores and felt not too happy about over par scores that reflected poor application of golfing skills. The star of the day in gross category was Salman Chima, a 12 handicapper who came up with a startling round of gross 74, two over par, and in the process managed to gain an edge over his nearest rival Malik Shahid Abbas by one stroke. Abbas carded a gross 75 as against Amer’s 74. Both these contenders reflected control over their tee shots and fairway shots and regular pars enabled them to emerge as the winners of first gross and second gross positions and picked up their trophies to the applause of a large number of fellow competitors. In this category Omer Salamat came third with a score of 77, followed by Asad Amin 80 and Col(r) Zulfiqar Rana 82. The race for net honors also produced sufficiently great performances that were unbelievably heartening. A round of net 14 under par is a rare happening and the credit for this goes to Amir Chaudry, an 18 handicapper, who played as well as any good single handicapper, the pars coming in regular succession and stroke losses few and far. In the net section Faisal Naseem Kari picked up the second slot with a round of net 64, eight under par. Another performance that deserves tremendous praise was of Nadeem Azam who had to be content with the third prize, with net score of 68 certainly a demonstration of his accuracy and control. Other good performances were by Naseer Akhter, Iftikhar Taj Mian, Dr.Ahsan Shamim, Nadeem Azam and Bakhtiar Hameed. At the conclusion of this corporate golf event, Irfan Akram, Vice President, Mobilink distributed prizes to the winners.
