An effective law to deal with wall-chalking would be introduced soon so that those involved in this activity can be punished, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed said on Sunday.
“It was decided in a meeting chaired by the Sindh governor that a law would be introduced through which people involved in wall-chalking can be charged with non-bailable offence and punished,” the administrator added. “The draft for this law has already been prepared.”
Syed said the KMC often carries out campaigns for removing graffiti from walls and bans this activity under Section 144.
“It is the responsibility of the KMC to remove graffiti from both major corridors of the city while the district municipal administrations are responsible for erasing graffiti from inner roads and streets within their jurisdiction,” he remarked.
“Saddar, Teen Hatti, Gulbahar, Patel Para, the MA Jinnah Road, the Shahrah-e-Pakistan and the Federal B Area are areas where lot of graffiti can be seen.”
The administrator asked citizens to inform the police if they see people writing on walls so that action can be taken against them.
