The 1,800 doctors working in the Punjab Social Security Department have been deprived of the pay raise announced by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, despite a lapse of six months.
The chief minister had announced a pay raise of Rs 15,000 and 10,000 as health professional allowance for the medical officers and consultants, while Rs 6,000 and 20,000 pay raise was announced for the house officers and post graduate trainees. However, the bureaucracy of the Social Security Department has deprived the doctors of their pay raise and is unwilling to implement the decision of the CM in the social security health institutions across Punjab. The general body meeting of the Punjab Social Security Doctors Association would be held on January 14 (today) at the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) House, Lahore to finalise the line of action for protest on the issue. A final strategy for a protest movement would be announced after the meeting.
