Remembering the poet that stood against dictatorship

Mujahid Barailvi launched his book ‘Jalib Jalib’, the third edition of his work on the renowned revolutionary poet Habib Jalib, at the Alhamra Art Council on Friday.
The book launching ceremony was attended by several notable personalities, including Aitezaz Ahsan, Asma Jahangir, IA Rehman, Qayyum Nizami, Mustafa Quraishi Farooq Tariq, Babaer Najmi, Faryal Gohar, Munno Bhai, Abid Hasan Manto and Mushtaq Lashari.
Speaking at the occasion, Mujahid Barailvi said that Habib Jalib’s work was timeless in the world of poetry. He maintained that Jalib was a foresighted poet, who had stood against dictatorship always and never compromised on democracy. Jalib’s work boosted the morale of the nation, giving them the courage to fight against feudalism and dictatorship, he added.
The book “Jalib Jalib” is a compilation of the poems of Habib Jalib, along with the contextual background of the verses. The book contains short incidents of Jalib’s life and the perceived inspirations of the poet, which had persuaded him to create his timeless verses.
Earlier editions of the book have been widely appreciated by the readers. Ayesha Nazir, who had read the earlier editions, said that the book grasped the attention of the reader immediately. “I have read the earlier editions of the book. They were a great read but I have the honour of having read this newly launched book and I think that this is even better than the previous ones,” she said.
The launching ceremony concluded with the writer signing the copies of the book for the people.
