Professional Group supported by Hamid Khan defeated its rival backed by Asma Jehangir in Lahore Bar Association elections on Saturday, unofficial results said Saturday.
Chaudhry Zulfiqar was elected president, securing 2208 votes. According to unofficial results Noman Qureshi of Asma Jehangir group secured 1867 votes while independent candidate Amir Iqbal Basharat clinched 957 votes.
A total of 5183 votes were casted out of total 11107 votes registered in the Lahore Bar Association. Malik Mumtaz Awan was elected Auditor with 2635 votes.
Talking to the media, Chaudhry Zulfiqar thanked Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Pakistan People’s Party, Jamat-e-Islami, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Awami National Party for supporting him.
He said that they would prove that they wanted supremacy of law in the country. Zulfiqar said that lawyers had rejected the elements backed and funded by the government. He said that it was the day of judiciary’s victory and defeat of Babar Awan.
A large number of lawyers danced and distributed sweets after celebrations.
