The Supreme Court (SC) adjourned till February 2 the hearing of contempt case over the press conference by former Federal Law Minister Babar Awan.
Pleading a two-judge bench of the court for more time to hire a counsel for him, Babar Awan told the judges it is appropriate for him to appear before the court along with a counsel.
He furthermore stressed, “I am seeking more time as I have some responsibilities to shoulder owing to be a parliamentarian,” adding, “I am not going anywhere.”
Addressing Awan, Justice Athar Saeed expressed surprise, “You have not take up a lawyer as yet.”
Later on, the court adjourned hearing for further proceedings till February 2nd on Babar Awan’s plea.
Earlier, the apex court adjourned the case hearing slated for January 9 over the demise of father of Justice Nasirul Mulk, a part of the 11-member bench hearing the presidential reference for revisiting the Zulfikar Ali Bhutto (ZAB) murder case.
Awan filed no reply to the court in the case, while the court held that it will decide first the case involving contemptuous remarks by the former law minister.
It should be mentioned here that the court served two notices of contempt on Awan, warning him of the cancellation of his lawyer license by the court.
