Asking all institutions to act within their constitutional ambit, Awami National Party (ANP) President Asfandyar Wali said on Thursday that the ANP will resist those who overstep their constitutional limits. “ANP will not support any unconstitutional step,” said Asfandyar Wali while addressing a press conference after chairing the party’s consultation meeting. He said the ANP will continue to support the government and hoped matters will settle amicably. He said, “We will not back a clash of institutions.” Asked on the parliamentary resolution putting confidence in President Asif Ali Zardari and PM Yousuf Raza Gilani, Asfandyar said the ANP will read the draft if any such resolution is written. Asked about the sacking of the defence secretary, he said everyone acknowledged the PM’s right to do so. He said the Supreme Court had passed its observation in the NRO case and forwarded the NRO implementation case to larger bench. He said early general elections could not be held as electoral rolls were incomplete.
