An attempt to smuggle thousands of litres of Iranian diesel through sea routes was foiled on Thursday. In a joint operation, the Maritime Security Agency and Pakistan Customs’ Anti-Smuggling Organisation seized two boats carrying the non-customs paid oil worth Rs 40 million. In a statement, Pakistan Customs’ Chief Media Officer Qamar Thalho said the contraband diesel was being smuggled through sea routes. “The boats and the non-duty paid fuel oil have been seized and further investigations are in progress,” he stated. The Model Customs Collectorate of Preventive has initiated criminal and adjudication proceedings against the suspects by lodging a case and issuing show-cause notices under the customs laws, accordingly.
