Directing all departmental heads to ensure attendance of officers and other staff on daily basis, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed has warned of disciplinary action against those who do not attend their duties without intimation. He said this during a surprise visit on Thursday to different KMC departments located at the Civic Centre. During his visit, the city administrator went to various offices including the KDA Land Department and enquired about the pending files there. He also listened to the complaints of the people visiting the office and issued directives on the spot for addressing the grievances.
Syed directed the officers to compile the complete record of those employees who are not attending their duties and, instead of solving the problems being faced by the public, are getting their salaries and perks sitting at home.
He said that he will frequently inspect any departmental office without prior intimation and the officers found guilty of committing negligence will face departmental action, including suspension from service. The administrator directed all officers and their subordinates, especially those dealing with public, to observe punctuality and attend their offices regularly. “Serving the citizens and solving their problems is the basic responsibility of the KMC and in order to fulfil this obligation all the staff should do their duty in the proper way,” he said.
Syed also directed the KMC officers to ensure energy conservation by allowing only necessary usage of electricity and said that meetings to review the pace of work on solar energy usage in KMC parks, playgrounds and buildings will be held each month.
