Advocate Nassar Ullah Warriach, Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) Executive Committee ex-chairman, who was gunned down by unidentified men late on Monday at his Gulshan-e- Ravi residence, was laid to rest on Tuesday.
Lahore High Court Chief Justice Azmat Saeed, several LHC judges, a large number of lawyers, members of civil society and people belonging to all walks of life attended the Namaz-e-Janaza of the slain lawyer held in football ground Gulshan-e- Ravi. Among others, Punjab Governor Sardar Latif Khosa also visited slain lawyer’s residence and condoled with his son Advocate Tahir Warriach and expressed concerns on the incident. The judges and lawyers present on the occasions expressed deep grief and sorrow on the incident. Lahore High Court bar Association (LHCBA) Secretary Malik Arsahd Awan has summoned a general house meeting of the bar for Wednesday (today) to discuss future line of action while Advocate Shahzad Khadam Mundey has filed a requisition in the LHCBA in this regard and for summoning the session for condemnation of the murder and to ensure immediate arrest of his assassins. Talking to reporters on the occasion, PML-Q central leader and senior Federal Minister Pervaiz Elahi said the Punjab government had failed to protect the lives of masses and Warraich’s killing showed its incompetence. “Shahbaz Sharif is not realizing his responsibilities and robbers are being given a free hand,” he said.
CASE REGISTERED: Separately, Gulshane Ravi Police registered a murder case against unidentified killers on the complaint of Warraich’s son. Sources in investigation police said they strongly believed that Warraich had had fallen victim to an old enmity in his native village, adding that a person in the rival group was killed a few months ago and it was likely that his son had hired assassins to get Warraich killed. SSP Investigation Abdul Razzaq Cheema said a 12-year-old worker had seen the killers and a sketch was being drawn from whatever information he could provide.
