Police arrest 10 staffers

The Police on Tuesday arrested 10 persons of the private college , including its security in-charge, after registering a case against them on the complaint of a victim’s father.
Father of one of the deceased girls and television actor Naseem Abbas, a resident of Farooq Colony, Walton Road, filed a complaint at the Gulberg Police Station late on Monday night. Naseem Abbas, in his complaint, said that his daughter Maheen Naseem Abbas was studding at the Ichra Campus of the aforesaid college. He said that the college administration allowed the girls to leave the place from the smaller gate after the concert ended and also baton-charged on the girls that resulted in a stampede. Many girls were trampled in a hurry to leave the place.
Naseem Abbas said that the stampede resulted in the death of his daughter Maheen Naseem Abbas and two other students Farah Nawaz and Sadia Batool, while seriously injuring six students, Nimra, Hina, Zoya, Munaza, Wajeeha and Sana Aman Ullah.
He said that the Alhamra Cultural Complex has a capacity of 5000 persons, however, 7000 persons were present at the event. He requested the police register a case against the college principal, Agha Tahir, Security Incharge Major Saleem, Sobaidar Muhammad Iqbal and 7 to 8 security guards. The Gulberg Police Station, on Naseem Abbas’s complaint, registered a case under the Section 322 and 337/L2 of the Pakistan Penal Code. The police also arrested Security Incharge Major Saleem, Sobaidar Muhammad Iqbal and 8 other security guards and started investigation in the matter. According to sources, the Model Town Police Station investigators on Tuesday visited the crime scene again and recorded the statements of the officials of Alhamra Cultural Complex, including Executive Director Muhammad Ali Baloch, Deputy Director Qazi Zubair, Program Manager Naveed Bukhari and other staffers. Talking to Pakistan Today, Investigation Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Abdul Razzaq Cheema said that the investigation would be conducted on merit. He said that they were investigating different aspects of the matter and the real cause of the mishap would be uncovered soon and the responsible would be dealt with strictly.
