Reacting to the Supreme Court’s decision in the NRO case, the PML-N on Tuesday said the government had announced an open war against the judiciary by not writing a letter to the Swiss government.
PML-N Deputy Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal said the Zardari government was giving the masses a slip on NRO case. “It is ridiculous that the government is mocking the court and people on the issue,” he said. “The NRO was black law. Not only the PML-N but the allies of the government also strongly opposed to it in parliament. Later, the PML-N challenged the NRO in the apex court but the central government kept prolonging it to save its skin.”
PML-N senator Pervaiz Rashid asked if the government deemed the allegations levelled against President Asif Zardari untrue, “what is the reason for the panic, as the Swiss courts are not Pakistani courts which it doesn’t trust”.
PTI Punjab President Ahsan Rashid said the NRO was a great injustice with this country as around 8,000 people were its beneficiaries. He said the cases of such people should be opened and they should be treated according to law.
JI chief Munawar Hasan termed the Supreme Court judgement in the NRO case prudent, and counselled the PPP leadership to respect and implement SC orders instead of going for a confrontation. He said the government claimed to respect to the Supreme Court but the president and the prime minister had bluntly rejected its orders by declaring not to write to the Swiss authorities.
He said the Supreme Court had already given two years to the government to implement its judgement in the NRO but in stead of implementation, the rulers were continuously committing contempt of court.
PML likeminded Provincial Secretary Information Muhammad Asif said the rulers were trying to seek political martyrdom by considering themselves above the law and the constitution.
JI Secretary General Liaqat Baloch said the government was determined to protect corruption and was showing disrespect to the judiciary’s orders. He said in view of the court orders, the PPP workers should get rid of their corrupt leadership.
Meanwhile, PML-N women wing (Punjab) led by Joint Secretary Kanwal Nauman staged a protest demonstrations against the government’s obstinacy on the NRO case demanding dismissal of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani.
