Give the girl a cab, LHC tells secretary

Lahore High Court Justice Khalid Mehmood directed the Punjab chief secretary on Tuesday to address the grievances of a girl who was not issued a car under the Yellow Cab Scheme despite fulfilling all the necessary requirements.
The judge forwarded a copy of the girl’s petition to the chief secretary and expressed displeasure on the irregularity in the government schemes. He directed the secretary to resolve the matter within 15 days and to inform the deputy registrar (judicial) about the compliance of the court’s order.
The petition, filed by Hina Ihtisham, stated that she applied for a cab under the Punjab Government Yellow Cab Scheme and deposited a down payment October last for this purpose. The petitioner, who was present at the hearing with her counsel, told the court that her application was rejected because her father had affiliations with the Pakistan Peoples Party and not with PML-N. She criticised the discriminatory attitude of the Punjab government and the Yellow Cab Scheme officials. She said the minimum qualification required for applying for a cab was BA while she had a master’s degree and fulfilled all the other requirements. She stated that she was interested in working as a professional cab driver and had also completed the motorway police driver’s training course to become eligible for getting the cab. She asked the court to direct the respondents, including the Punjab government, to provide her the cab.
