The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) on Monday allotted two plots of land to the health department for the construction of two hospitals in the provincial metropolis.
A 300-bed hospital will be built on a 50 kanal, 14 marla piece of land that was previously owned by a match factory on GT Road Shahdara. The second hospital will be constructed on a 2 acre, eight kanal plot at the Civic Centre in Quaid-e-Azam Town. This was decided in a meeting of the LDA governing body which was chaired by LDA Chairman and District Co-ordination Officer Ahad Khan Cheema.
The governing body also decided to establish a dedicated directorate for monitoring the development of the private housing schemes approved by LDA.
The directorate will ensure the timely completion of the construction of these projects in order to overcome shortage of housing facilities in the city.
It was also decided that funds will be raised using the LDA’s resources for the construction of a commercial cum car parking plaza at the Allama Iqbal Town Moon Market. 67 shops in the plaza would be sold simultaneously to earn revenue for this purpose.
The governing body also approved the construction of an overhead pedestrian bridge at the Moulana Shoukat Ali Road in front of the Jinnah Hospital at a cost of Rs 37.226 million. Proposals were also approved for the construction of a slip-road connecting the Bahawalpur and Lytton roads at Qurtaba Chowk and the reconstruction of the Maulana Shabbir Usmani Road from ‘Y’ Junction New Garden Town to Faisal Town at a cost of Rs 136.88 million.
The body approved a revised estimate of Rs 172.791 million for the reconstruction of the Ferozepur Road from Qurtaba Chowk to Khaira Distributory, Chungi Amer Sidhu. Besides the construction of the Ghazi Road T-Junction and entry and exist ramps from the Qainchi Intersection to the Khaira Distributory, remodelling of the General Hospital Intersection and the development of parking lots will also be carried out under this project.
The authority also allowed a sports club to be constructed at Ravi Road for Rs 58.226 million. The club will contain table tennis and basket ball courts, a gym, two courts each for tennis, badminton and volley ball, a kabadi ground as well as a wrestling area.
The meeting was attended by LDA Vice Chairman Aamir Asgher Dar, WASA Vice Chairman Haji Muhammad Sharif, LDA Director General Abdul Jabbar Shaheen, WASA Managing Director Dr Javed Iqbal, TEPA Chief Engineer Saif-ur-Rahman, Chief Metropolitan Planner Waseem Ahmad Khan, Chief Town Planner Ch. Muhammad Akram and LDA Chief Engineer Israr Saeed.
The representatives of the provincial and local government’s housing, planning and development and finance departments and the City District constituent town administrators were also present at the occasion.
