Malik reveals the Sharifs’ ‘NRO deal’

Displaying the documents signed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif and his brother, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, in which he appealed to former president Pervez Musharraf for pardon during the trial of cases against him and his family members in 2000, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said on Tuesday that Nawaz deliberately ignored the ‘National Reconciliation Ordinance’ (NRO) he had signed with the military dictator to avoid imprisonment. “Nawaz Sharif is talking too much about the NRO promulgated by the previous regime but has forgotten the NRO he had signed with Pervez Musharraf to escape imprisonment,” he told reporters after attending a meeting held to review the implementation process of the Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan Package. Reacting to Malik’s tirade against Nawaz, PML-N central leader Senator Pervez Rashid said the pieces of paper that were being made public by Malik had already been dumped in the dustbin of history by the Supreme Court. “Rehman Malik should not throw stones at others while sitting in a glass house,” he said. The interior minister said facing jail was not easy and Nawaz sought pardon for himself and his family members, signed a deal and left the nation to face a dictator. He also made public the documents signed by the PML-N leaders.
