A number of areas in DHA faced long outages which caused problems for consumers on Sunday. Outages were also witnessed in other areas, with most areas not being supplied electricity for more than three hours consecutively. Defence Housing Society (DHA) residents said the outages started at 9am and ended at 2pm. Even though it was a public holiday and commercial centres were closed, Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) did not spare consumers from outages. Outages started early in the morning and electricity was shut for two hours after every hour of supply.
CNG stations too apologised to consumers for being unable to supply CNG due to the outages. All city areas, including Faisal Town, Model Town, Garden Town, Township, Johar Town, Cantonment, Wahdat Road, Muslim Town, Harbasnpura, Shalimar, Mozang, Gari Shahu, Mustafabad and the Walled City faced outages. Housewife Attia Rehman said, “I had to wash clothes but could not do so. There was no reason for the outages on a public holiday. It was frustrating.”
Banker Sheikh Waseem said on a day when no market, office or bank is open and power demand decreases, outages increased.
However, LESCO sources said the outages were due to repairs of the transmission and dispatch system. They said LESCO was facing around 700-800MW shortfall as supply stood at 800MW while demand remained 1,500-1,600MW.
