Terming the US as the biggest enemy of the Muslim world, Pakistan Defence Council (PDC) on Saturday demanded the government not to reopen the NATO supply routes.
The meeting of PDC was held at a local hotel with Maulana Samiul Haq of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sami (JUI-S) in the chair, while other religious and political leaders including Hafiz Saeed Ahmed of Jamaatud Dawa, General (r) Hamid Gul, JI chief Syed Munawar Hussain, Awami Muslim League President Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and PML- Zia head Ijazul Haq also attended the moot. After the meeting, in a communiqué read by Samiul Haq, the PDC said it was the need of the hour for the government to change its foreign policy and keep the NATO supplies permanently closed.
“We strongly condemned the government’s reported consideration for reopening the NATO routes through the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, as opening of routes meant to invite more drone attacks,” Sami said. He warned the government of a countrywide movement if NATO supply was restored.
The members of PDC hailed government for taking back Shamsi Airbase from the US forces.
In the communiqué, the PDC also demanded the government not to give the Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status to India. “Giving the MFN status to India meant negation of Kashmir,” said the statement.
The PDC called upon the government to immediately withdraw from the alliance on the US-led war on the terrorism, saying the war was not that of Pakistan.
Later, talking to media persons, Hafiz Saeed said the whole world had seen Indian’s bloody face in the shape of mass graves in Kashmir and granting it the MFN status was equivalent to acceptance of India’s supremacy and stabbing the Kashmiris’ freedom movement. When asked, if the Parliament representing whole nation would give the MFN status to India, what would be the PDC’s response, Hafiz Saeed proposed holding a referendum on NATO supply and the MFN status issues.
