The severe load-shedding of gas and miserably low pressure of gas supply has adversely hit the export-oriented leather industries in the industrial hub of the country. Chairman Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) S Z Khurshid Ahmed, said the gas shortage has resulted in complete closure of boilers, spray plants and dyeing drums. “The leather manufacturing and processing has been adversely affected as a whole; rendering exporters unable to meet export orders,” Ahmed said. He showed his utter concern over leather industry and its exports, saying, the industry would not be able to achieve its production targets or make shipments on due dates in compliance with agreements with its customers in foreign countries. The exporters may have to face penalties or cancellation of orders owing to shipments’ failure. He urged upon Sui Southern Gas Company Ltd (SSGC)to ensure supply of gas to the export-oriented leather industry at sector 7/A, Korangi industrial area, with full pressure and exempt it from gas load-shedding on Sundays so that it may continue to focus on its manufacturing and export sector.
