At least eight persons including members of a family were killed and several others injured in two separate road accidents in Kasur and Shorkot due to thick fog on Saturday.
Police officials said that three members of a family, including two brothers and a sister, were going to school on a motorbike when an over speeding truck hit them because of thick fog at an overhead bridge in Patoki area of Kasur. The three died on the spot. The deceased were identified as Bashir, 15, Javed, 10, and Ayesha, 8. Their bodies were shifted to the hospital for post-mortem.
The driver of the truck managed to flee from the scene after the accident. Police officials said they had started a search operation to arrest the fugitive driver.
In another road accident on Cantt road near Kaswal area in Shorkot, two passenger buses collided head on due to dense fog, leaving five passengers dead and several others injured, police said. Local people, police and rescue teams reached the site after the accident and shifted the injured and dead bodies to different hospitals. Some among the injured were stated to be in critical condition, hospital staff said. The death toll in the incident was expected to increase.
