The bullet-riddled body of noted cardiologist Dr Syed Mohammad Jamal was recovered from Jamrud tehsil of Khyber Agency on Saturday.
Jamal was abducted around two months ago and belonged to Parachinar, headquarters of Kurram Agency.
Jamal was abducted by unidentified militants from Peshawar and the militants had demanded a hefty ransom for his release, however, negotiations were in progress.
However, officials in the Khyber political administration said Peshawar police had been informed of the development and the body was first shifted to Hayatabad Medical Complex and later handed over to relatives. Jamal was laid to rest in Hayatabad graveyard.
He was the brother of Dr Sultan and belonged to the Shia community. Shias have suffered a lot in the ongoing trend of militancy and terrorism. Over 1,000 Shias have been killed since 2007.
